Ranking and the comeback from injury
On 18 October 2025 Rune ruptured his left Achilles tendon in the Stockholm Open semifinal against Ugo Humbert, while leading by a set. He had surgery in Copenhagen three days later and missed all four Grand Slams in 2026. After 335 days he returned in the Davis Cup in Hillerød on 18–19 September 2026, beating Iliyan Radulov and Grigor Dimitrov as Denmark defeated Bulgaria 3-2.
On the ATP Tour he then lost in the first round in Tokyo and Shanghai, and on 18 October he withdrew from Brussels with a back problem. Holger Rune is ranked No. 1205 in the ATP rankings (as of 19 October 2026). The drop is because his 2025 points have expired; he enters events on a protected ranking, No. 14 according to Blick. Most recently he lost to Daniel Altmaier 6-1 6-7(5) 4-6 in round 1 of the Shanghai Masters (7 October 2026).
Career highlights
Rune won the 2019 French Open boys' title and became junior world No. 1 that year. In April 2018, aged 14, he became Denmark's youngest ever Davis Cup player. His breakthrough came in 2022, when he won Munich and Stockholm and finished with the Paris Masters, beating five top-10 players including Carlos Alcaraz and then Novak Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final – the first man to beat five top-10 players at one event outside the ATP Finals.

- Titles: Munich 2022, Stockholm 2022, Paris Masters 2022, Munich 2023 and Barcelona 2025, where he beat Alcaraz 7-6(6), 6-2 in the final.

Rune is right-handed with a two-handed backhand, stands 1.88 m and turned professional in 2020. He lives in Monaco and joined Patrick Mouratoglou's academy in France in 2016, aged 13. His best season so far was 2023, when he reached No. 4, played the ATP Finals and finished the year at No. 8. He has finished every year since inside the top 20: No. 13 in 2024 and No. 15 in 2025. His mother, Aneke Rune, is his manager.
