When does Holger Rune play next?

As of 23 October 2026 the plan is for Rune to return in Basel, even though the run-up was not ideal. On 18 October he withdrew from the European Open in Brussels, where he had a wildcard, because his back had seized up. He said scans had confirmed it was nothing serious and that he needed two to three days of rest. His team has since said that Basel remains the next stop.

The exact day of his first match depends on the draw. At an ATP event the first round is usually spread over the first two or three days of the week, so his opener could fall anywhere from Monday to Wednesday. Until the draw is published nobody knows his opponent or his slot, which is why we show the tournament as his next match until the pairing is confirmed and then switch automatically to the date and time.

His comeback from the Achilles injury has been mixed so far. After 335 days without a match he won both of his singles rubbers for Denmark in the Davis Cup in Hillerød on 18–19 September 2026, against Iliyan Radulov and Grigor Dimitrov. On the ATP Tour, however, he lost in the first round in both Tokyo and Shanghai.

Main-draw dates. The matches are played in the same time zone as Denmark (CET). Updated automatically; source: ATP, the tournaments.

As of 23 October 2026 the autumn looks like this: the Swiss Indoors in Basel (ATP 500), then the Paris Masters (Masters 1000), where he won the biggest title of his career in 2022, and finally the Stockholm Open (ATP 250), which he won in 2022 and where he was injured in 2025. On 22 September Rune said he had planned five events up to mid-November: Tokyo, Shanghai, Basel, Paris and Stockholm. Note that the Paris dates published by the tournament include qualifying, so the main draw starts a little after 31 October. The full plan, including what we know about 2027, is on the Holger Rune schedule page.

What time does Holger Rune play? How start times work

A tennis start time is only known the evening before. Each tournament publishes the next day's order of play, usually late in the afternoon or in the evening, once the day's matches are nearly finished. Only then do you know which court Rune is on and in which order.

  • Fixed time: the first match on each court and the evening-session matches have a set start time.
  • "Not before": some matches get an earliest start time; they can easily begin later.
  • "Followed by": most matches start after the previous match on the same court finishes, so a long first match pushes everything back.

For readers in Denmark the autumn is simple: Basel, Paris and Stockholm are all in the same time zone as Denmark, so the time in the order of play is Danish time. Clocks went back on 25 October, so this is CET (UTC+1). In Tokyo and Shanghai his matches were played in the Danish morning. On match day the time is also shown on the Holger Rune match today page.

Protected ranking: how he gets into the draws

Holger Rune is ranked No. 1205 in the ATP rankings (as of 19 October 2026). The drop came on 19 October 2026, when the points from his 2025 Stockholm semifinal expired. His only ATP points in 2026 come from Shanghai, because the Davis Cup does not award ranking points. With that ranking he would normally not get into an ATP 500 or Masters 1000 draw.

The answer is a protected ranking. Players who have been injured for a long period can use a ranking that the ATP sets based on where they stood around the time of the injury. According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, Rune's protected ranking is No. 14. It gets him into the main draw, but it earns no points and is not the same as being seeded, so he could face a top player in the first round. ATP rules allow only a limited number of events on a protected ranking. You can follow his position on the Holger Rune ranking page.

If he wins: the next rounds

If he wins his opener, he usually plays again one or two days later. A week on the ATP Tour follows a familiar pattern: first and second rounds early in the week, quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday. That puts the Basel final on Sunday 1 November and the Paris final on Sunday 8 November. His next opponent appears in the box at the top as soon as the other match in his section of the draw is completed.

A deep run in Basel would leave little time before Paris, as the two events are back to back; when his first Paris match is scheduled is up to the tournament. Rune has good memories of all three: he reached the Basel final in 2022, won the Paris Masters that year and won the Stockholm Open in 2022 as well.

Where to watch Holger Rune's next match

All three autumn events are part of the ATP Tour, which TV 2 holds the rights to in Denmark in 2026: TV 2 Sport and TV 2 Play. TV 2 Play carries every centre-court match from the events in the deal, while TV 2 Sport and TV 2 Sport X show selected matches. Outside Denmark, coverage depends on the local rights holder.
