Munich 2022: the first title

His first ATP title came on clay in Munich in May 2022. He beat world No. 3 Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-2 along the way, and in the final Botic van de Zandschulp retired at 3-4 in the first set. The next day Rune entered the top 50 for the first time.

Stockholm 2022: beating Tsitsipas

In October 2022 he won the Stockholm Open on indoor hard courts, coming back to beat Alex de Minaur 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-5 in the semifinals and beating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in the final.

Paris Masters 2022: the biggest title of his career

Two weeks later came his biggest title. At the Paris Masters he beat Stan Wawrinka in round one and then five top-10 players in a row – Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, Félix Auger-Aliassime and, in the final, Novak Djokovic 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid

Indian Wells brought the 2025 final, won 6-2, 6-2 by Jack Draper, and the 2024 quarterfinals. His best Miami result is the last 16 in 2023, where Taylor Fritz beat him. Madrid has been his hardest Masters event: he has never gone beyond his second match.

Munich, Basel, Stockholm and the ATP 500 and 250 events

The Swiss Indoors in Basel has given him a final in 2022, lost to Auger-Aliassime, and semifinals in 2023 and 2024. Basel 2023 was his first event with Boris Becker in his box, and the week he stopped playing in a cap. As of 23 October 2026 he is entered for Basel on 26 October–1 November.

Holger Rune in Stockholm

The ATP Finals and the Royal Arena exhibition

ATP Finals 2023

Rune has played the season-ending ATP Finals once, in Turin in 2023. He lost to Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner in the round robin, while Stefanos Tsitsipas retired against him, so one win from three was not enough for the semifinals.

Holger Rune at Royal Arena

At Royal Arena in Copenhagen Rune played the second leg of the Nordic Battle exhibition series against Casper Ruud on 3 December 2024. Ruud had won the first match in Asker, Norway, but according to the Spanish tennis outlet Punto de Break, Rune won in Copenhagen and took the series. It was an exhibition and does not count in ATP statistics.
