How to read a tennis live score
Tennis is scored in points, games and sets. On the ATP Tour men play best of three sets, as they do in the Davis Cup; only the Grand Slams are best of five.
- Points: within a game the count is 15, 30, 40, game. At 40-40 it is "deuce", and a player must then win two points in a row – "advantage", then the game.
- Games: a set goes to the first player to six games with a margin of at least two, such as 6-4 or 7-5.
- Tiebreak: at 6-6 a tiebreak is played, won by the first to seven points with a two-point margin. The set is recorded as 7-6.
- Break: winning a game on the opponent's serve is a break, often the decisive moment of a set.
In our results Rune's score comes first. The number in brackets after a tiebreak set is the loser's points in the tiebreak. When Rune beat Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) in the Davis Cup, he won the third-set tiebreak 7-4; when he lost to Daniel Altmaier 6-1, 6-7(5), 4-6 in Shanghai, he lost the second-set tiebreak 7-5. "Ret." means a player retired during the match – as Rune had to in the 2025 Stockholm semifinal at 6-4, 2-2, when he was a set up.

His comeback from the Achilles injury began with two Davis Cup wins in Hillerød on 18–19 September 2026, after 335 days without a match. Three matches Danish fans remember
- Paris Masters final, 6 November 2022: Rune lost the first set to Novak Djokovic but won 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, having beaten five top-10 players that week – the first man to do so at one event outside the ATP Finals.
- Barcelona final, 20 April 2025: against Carlos Alcaraz he took the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6(6), and the second 6-2 for his fifth and most recent ATP title.
- Davis Cup in Hillerød, 19 September 2026: in his second match after the injury he lost the first set to Grigor Dimitrov but won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), helping Denmark to a 3-2 win over Bulgaria.
