Wimbledon 2022: debut and a first-round exit

Rune arrived in London in 2022 ranked No. 29, a few weeks after his French Open quarterfinal. It was his first Wimbledon main draw, and the switch from clay to grass did not go well: American Marcos Giron, then No. 65, won 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. The defeat did not derail his year – that autumn he won Stockholm and the Paris Masters and finished 2022 at No. 11.

Holger Rune at Wimbledon 2023: the quarterfinal against Alcaraz

Summer 2023 is his best on grass. At Queen's Club he beat Maxime Cressy, Ryan Peniston and Lorenzo Musetti to reach the semifinals, where he lost 3-6, 6-7(2) to Alex de Minaur. He then went into Wimbledon ranked No. 6. His Wimbledon 2023 run, round by round:

  • First round: beat Britain's George Loffhagen 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2.
  • Second round: beat Roberto Carballés Baena 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4.
  • Third round: beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(8), coming back from two sets to one down and winning a fifth-set tiebreak.
  • Fourth round: beat Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4), 6-3.
  • Quarterfinal: lost to world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz 6-7(3), 4-6, 4-6.

The first set was decided in a tiebreak before Alcaraz pulled away. It was still a breakthrough: Rune had never won a Wimbledon main-draw match before, and in August he rose to his career high of No. 4. According to ATP data, the quarterfinal was worth $431,630 in prize money.

Wimbledon 2024: three wins and Djokovic in the fourth round

Ranked No. 15 and coming off a first-round loss at Queen's, Rune beat Soonwoo Kwon 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 and Thiago Seyboth Wild from a set down. Against Quentin Halys in the third round he trailed by two sets and turned it round 1-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-1. In the fourth round Novak Djokovic, then No. 2, won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Djokovic leads their ATP head-to-head 4-2 – see our Holger Rune head-to-head page.

Out of Wimbledon: Jarry in 2025 and injury in 2026

In 2025 Rune reached the Queen's quarterfinals and came to Wimbledon as world No. 8. Against Chile's Nicolas Jarry, then No. 143, he led 6-4, 6-4, but Jarry took the last three sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. In 2026 he did not make it to the start: on 18 June he withdrew, because his recovery from the Achilles rupture of October 2025 was taking longer than planned and he had picked up a knee problem in training. The full injury timeline is on our Grand Slams page.

When does Holger Rune play Wimbledon? Times in Danish time

Wimbledon traditionally runs from late June to mid-July. As of 23 October 2026 Rune has said nothing about Wimbledon 2027, and the exact dates are published by the All England Club. His next tournament is Swiss Indoors Basel (26 Oct – 1 Nov); check our next match page for the latest.

London is one hour behind Denmark. Play on most courts usually starts at 11am local time (noon Danish time), on No. 1 Court at 1pm (2pm Danish time) and on Centre Court at 1.30pm (2.30pm Danish time). The order of play is published the evening before, so a second or third match on a court may not start until late afternoon Danish time. Matches are best of five sets, and a final-set tiebreak decides a fifth set that reaches 6-6, as in Rune's win over Davidovich Fokina in 2023, so long days can push later matches well into the evening.

Watching Wimbledon in Denmark

Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam on DR in Denmark, on DR1, DR2 and DRTV, though not every court is covered (as of 23 October 2026). The other three majors are on Eurosport and HBO Max, and the regular ATP Tour is on TV 2 in 2026. Our where to watch page has the full overview. Use official broadcasters only; YouTube carries highlights, not full matches.

Grass and Holger Rune's game

Rune is 7-4 in Wimbledon main draws. Grass rewards big serving and short points, which took adjustment for a player raised on long clay-court rallies and whose best major results came at the French Open. His wins over Dimitrov and Davidovich Fokina in 2023 and the comeback against Halys in 2024 show that he can win long matches on grass. He has met several of his London opponents since: he and Alcaraz are 2-2 after Rune won the 2025 Barcelona final, and he beat Dimitrov again in the Davis Cup in Hillerød in September 2026.
