Rune ruptured his left Achilles tendon in the Stockholm semifinal on 18 October 2025 and had surgery in Copenhagen three days later. He missed all four Grand Slams of 2026, and his first match back came after 335 days away.

Davis Cup in Hillerød: two wins on his return

The comeback came in Denmark's Davis Cup tie against Bulgaria in Hillerød on 18–19 September 2026. He beat Iliyan Radulov 6-3, 6-3 and then came from a set down to beat Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4). Denmark won the tie 3-2 after Elmer Møller took the deciding rubber. Davis Cup matches count in the ATP win–loss record but carry no ranking points. All his ties are on the Holger Rune Davis Cup page.

Tokyo and Shanghai: two first-round defeats

His first tour event after the injury was the Japan Open in Tokyo, where he lost 3-6, 1-6 to Kyrian Jacquet of France in 53 minutes on 1 October. A week later at the Shanghai Masters he won the first set 6-1 against Germany's Daniel Altmaier but lost 6-1, 6-7(5), 4-6 in round one. He then withdrew from the European Open in Brussels on 18 October because his back had seized up; he said scans showed nothing serious.

Results 2025: Indian Wells final, Barcelona title and the Stockholm injury

2025 was his last full season before the injury. He finished with 36 wins and 22 defeats and ranked No. 15 in the world.

Barcelona: the title with a win over Alcaraz

More on every title on the Holger Rune titles page.

The rest of 2025 and the Stockholm semifinal

He reached the fourth round at both the Australian Open, losing to Jannik Sinner, and Roland Garros, losing to Lorenzo Musetti, but went out in round one at Wimbledon against Nicolas Jarry in five sets. In the autumn he made the quarterfinals in Cincinnati and Shanghai. In Stockholm he beat Marton Fucsovics and Tomas Martin Etcheverry before his Achilles gave way in the semifinal against Ugo Humbert while he led 6-4, 2-2.

How to read the Holger Rune results tables

Each row is one singles match. "Week" is the tournament's start date, not the day of the match. The number in brackets after the opponent is his world ranking at the time. Scores are always from Rune's side, so 6-1, 6-7(5), 4-6 means he won the first set and lost the next two; the number in brackets after a set is the loser's tiebreak points. "ret." means a player retired.

Rounds are counted from the first round of the main draw. At a 128-player Grand Slam the fourth round is the last 16, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. At the 96-player Masters 1000 events the seeds get a first-round bye and start in round two, so "round 4" there is also the last 16. Season totals are on the Holger Rune stats page, and his full match list is on his official ATP profile.

His latest semifinal, quarterfinal and final

His most recent tour semifinal was Stockholm in October 2025, where the injury struck. His latest final was the title match in Barcelona in April 2025. As of 23 October 2026 he has not yet won a match at an ATP event in 2026. At the majors his best results are three quarterfinals: Roland Garros 2022 and 2023, both lost to Casper Ruud, and Wimbledon 2023, lost to Carlos Alcaraz. Every Slam match is on the Holger Rune Grand Slam results page.
