Career year by yearLatest Holger Rune news as of 23 October 2026
The week before the Swiss Indoors in Basel has been about his back. On 18 October 2026 Rune withdrew from the European Open in Brussels, where he had a wildcard. His back had seized up, but he said scans had confirmed it was nothing serious and that he needed two to three days of rest. His team has since said the plan is still to play Basel, where he is on the entry list with a protected ranking. The draw had not been published on 23 October. The withdrawal followed two first-round defeats on the ATP Tour, in Tokyo and in Shanghai, where he had won the first set 6-1 against Daniel Altmaier.
The day after the withdrawal, on 19 October, he dropped to No. 1205 in the ATP rankings as the points from his 2025 Stockholm semifinal expired. He is currently No. 1205 (as of 19 October 2026). The drop does not change his schedule, since he enters events on his protected ranking. Most recently he lost to Daniel Altmaier 6-1 6-7(5) 4-6 in round 1 of the Shanghai Masters (7 October 2026). When he plays next is tracked on the Holger Rune next match page.

Racket and coaching news in 2026
The biggest off-court story came on 9 July 2026, when Wilson presented Rune as an ambassador at the launch of its new Defyer range. His Babolat deal – he played the Pure Aero 98 for years – expired at the end of 2025. B.T. reported, via alt.dk, a five-year Wilson contract, but its value has not been confirmed, and neither has the exact frame he uses. Clothing and shoes are still Nike. More on the Holger Rune racket page.
No coaching change has been announced in 2026. His ATP profile lists Lars Christensen and Kenneth Carlsen as coaches, but their 2026 roles have not been confirmed in the press. Fitness coach Marco Panichi, who previously worked with Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, has been on board since August 2025 and led the physical side of the rehab. The full team over the years is on the Holger Rune coach page.
What to watch in the coming weeks
- The Basel draw: it decides his first-round opponent. A protected ranking does not bring a seeding, so he could face a top player.
- His back: after the Brussels withdrawal, it is worth watching whether he gets through matches without problems.
- Paris Masters: 31 October to 8 November including qualifying. The organisers say he is the only player on the entry list using a protected ranking; he won the title in 2022.
- Stockholm Open: 8–14 November, in the venue where he won in 2022 and was injured in 2025.
- The ranking: every main-draw win brings new ATP points, so his position can climb quickly from No. 1205.
- Davis Cup: the draw for the first round of the 2027 Qualifiers is expected in November 2026.
- TV rights in Denmark: TV 2's ATP deal runs through 2026; who will show the ATP Tour from 2027 has not been announced.
The full autumn plan is on the Holger Rune schedule page.
