Holger Rune’s coaching team today

His official ATP profile names two coaches: Lars Christensen and Kenneth Carlsen. ATP profile fields are not always up to date, and neither has said in 2026 how the work is split. No coaching change was announced in 2026, but it has not been reported who sat in his box in Tokyo and Shanghai in October. So we say it as it is: they are listed on the profile, but their 2026 roles are not confirmed.

The fitness coach is better documented. Marco Panichi, who previously worked with Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, joined from Cincinnati in August 2025 and led the physical side of the rehab after the October 2025 Achilles injury. According to Tennis365, Panichi described Rune as a quick learner during the rehab. He was still a key part of the team at the Davis Cup comeback in September 2026. Rune’s next tournament is Swiss Indoors Basel (26 Oct – 1 Nov) – see the next match page.

Lars Christensen: the childhood coach

Lars Christensen has been with Rune the longest. They met at Skovshoved IF when Rune was a child, and Christensen stayed through his junior years – also after Rune began training at the Mouratoglou Academy at 13 – and through his first ATP titles in 2022. He left in autumn 2023 when Boris Becker arrived, then returned in October 2024; Danish broadcaster DR described it as a reunion with the childhood coach meant to pull the star out of a slump. According to Eurosport he continued in 2025, a strong season: an Indian Wells final in March, the Barcelona title in April after beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final, and a ranking of No. 8 in summer 2025.

Patrick Mouratoglou: three spells

Rune trained at Mouratoglou’s academy in Biot from 2016, but the Frenchman only became his personal coach in October 2022. Shortly afterwards Rune won Stockholm and the Paris Masters. They split on 3 April 2023; in the following weeks, with Lars Christensen coaching, Rune reached the Monte-Carlo and Rome finals. Mouratoglou returned before Roland Garros 2023, and the second spell brought quarterfinals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and the rise to No. 4 on 21 August 2023. After a first-round loss at the US Open they parted again in late August 2023. The third spell ran from 21 February to 28 July 2024 and included a Monte-Carlo quarterfinal and the fourth round at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Boris Becker and Severin Lüthi

In October 2023 Rune brought in Boris Becker. Basel that month was his first event with Becker in the box – it was also where he stopped wearing a cap. With Becker he reached the Basel semifinals and the Paris Masters quarterfinals, finished 2023 at No. 8 and played the ATP Finals. Severin Lüthi of Switzerland joined in December 2023. Both stints were short: Lüthi left in January 2024 after the Australian Open, and Becker on 5 February 2024.

Kenneth Carlsen, Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh and Andre Agassi

Dane Kenneth Carlsen was with Rune in Brisbane in January 2024, where he reached the final. From August 2024 Carlsen was his head coach, and in 2025 he joined him at selected events; he is still on the ATP profile in October 2026. In September and October 2024, coach Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh travelled with him on the Asian swing as a temporary solution. In July 2025 Rune had a short but widely covered block with Andre Agassi – three days of training and mentoring before Washington. It was not a permanent hire, but according to Sports Illustrated they stayed in touch.

Why does Holger Rune change coaches so often?

Between October 2022 and October 2024 his coaching set-up changed many times – Mouratoglou alone coached him in three spells – which is why he is known for frequent coaching changes. Detailed explanations have rarely been given. The most quoted comes from his mother and manager, Aneke Rune: when the partnership with Mouratoglou ended for the second time in August 2023, she spoke of "ego clashes" in the coaching team. Beyond public statements like that, we do not repeat speculation. Read about his mother’s role on the family page and follow his results under each coach on the career page and in the stats.
